Welcome to Pura Vida Basketball, where we're dedicated to empowering youth both on and off the court. Our camps and clinics provide immersive experiences that go beyond traditional basketball training. From dynamic day camps to enriching overnight retreats, we offer a variety of programs tailored to suit every young athlete's needs.

At Pura Vida Basketball, we believe in nurturing the whole athlete. In addition to honing basketball skills, our curriculum encompasses essential life lessons such as nutrition, personal growth, and sports psychology. Through engaging activities, interactive workshops, and hands-on training, we instill confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset in every participant.

SCOTT WHELER

OWNER OPERATOR

Coach Wheler has coached basketball for over 20 years in numerous capacities and at a variety of schools. As a result, of his many years of experience in coaching both girls and boys teams of all abilities, he knows what it takes to develop the skills necessary to improve each player’s individual skill sets. This coupled with his personal love of the game, propels him to bring out the best in every athlete. 

CHRIS wEber

HEAD COACH

Growing up in a sports-oriented family, Coach Chris developed a love for basketball at an early age. Former U Sports Rookie of the Year at Carlton University, a first-team All-Star, All-Canadian, and a former Canadian National team player.  He enjoyed a decade long career as a European Pro and is excited to bring his skills and passion for the game to the next generation of aspiring young players.

AALIYAH ALEXANDER

CAMP DIRECTOR

Coach Aaliyah has been coaching for the past 7 years. She is an enthusiastic coach passionate about the game and always looking for creative ways to improve both her coaching and playing skills. 

"I love to work with young athletes at basketball camps because not only does it help me improve my skills but also I love helping the kids learn, improve and master their own game. Watching them have fun, grow and fall in love with the sport makes me want to keep teaching and spreading the love for the great game of basketball" - Coach Aaliyah.

CARL VELTMANN

CAMP DIRECTOR

New to our staff in Summer 2025 is Coach Carl, Former Guelph Gryphon and Portugal Pro Tour player.

“I love teaching the game from a tactical standpoint, from a skill standpoint and from a mental standpoint. I always want to help players get better at the game of basketball and help them realize that there is always another level that they can reach by pushing themselves beyond what they think their limit may be. I believe basketball and life are very similar and the lessons you learn from basketball can also help you with challenges you may face in life.” - Coach Carl.
